![]() SEEDING AND GROWTH
Roy has just planted in Canada, 2000. Germinating pea seed (left). Big open spaces for peas in Oregon...field with stubble from 1999 crop makes good ground. Field guys look over newly planted field.
Compost was used for these peas. Vines are blooming like crazy! Peas in June are NICE...Gaylen looks happy! We thought the stand was not very substantial in the early assessments of the 2000 crop. Due to cold weather and untreated (organic) seed, the germination was not even. However the number of peas that set on the vines was really over the usual numbers! So, we had a fine crop for harvest... was it because of fretility? Organic soils have not been documented well enough to get all the answers, but we tend to feel that the micro nutrients, organic bacterial activity, and organic farming methods maintain such healthy soils that some problems solve themselves in unexpected ways!
