EARTH'S FINEST GREEN BEANS
SOIL PREPARATION & NUTRITION

Soils generally need added nutrients in anticipation of crop demands. A cover crop can be planted in the fall and disked in for fertility. Alfalfa is crowned prior to planting potatoes (above, left). Peas come up through Sudan grass (above, right). Recent studies have shown that many green crops used in this way naturally fumigate the soil, promoting beneficial bacterial growth and soil tilth.

Rotation does enhance many nutrients in the soil; but unless ideal rotations are realized, manure, compost and rock powders can be applied before the soil is cultivated (above, left). An air-powered side bander can place organic fertilizer next to the seed.

Disking, chiseling, & harrowing (above right) break up the ground allowing water and nutrients to penetrate deep, feeding the roots of the new plants.
SEEDING & PLANTING

Beans fix nitrogen in the soil and make an excellent rotation for corn or spuds. Moisture and soil temperature effect germination and plant population. Weeds are eliminated by rotary hoe.

HARVESTING

And harvest begins!

The harvester deposits beans into a bin.
PRODUCT PROCESSING

Jim and Tim (Quality Control) follow the beans to the processor, where there are mountains of snappy little beans.

The beans are inspected continuously as they travel to the freeze tunnel.
As soon as the beans are frozen, they come out of the tunnel and are deposited into large totes where they are kept frozen until packaged for sale to you.
