![]() EARTH'S FINEST CORN In 1999 field was in potatoes and the flower border was beautiful. It was reseeded for the 2000 corn crop and is even lovelier than before. The rotation of potatoes followed by corn is a good one as long as fertility is kept up.
![]() SEEDING & PLANTING
Corn seed germination going well...here's a sprout. Corn just after planting during germination, compost rows in the background.
![]() Little rows coming up nicely in a big field. Tiny root hairs on a new sprout from the row (May 2000).
![]() Even nice young corn field, good color, even growth (June 2000). Even field of corn in bloom, beautiful.
September Corn, tall and green, a beautiful crop. Tassel waiting for pollen from flowers on top of plant.
The harvester picks the cobs off the stalks and deposits them into a dump wagon. Harvester ground speed can cause damage to the corn, so care is taken to get it right.
The harvester then dumps the corn into a truck for market or processor. Another wagon full and out-of-here. Return to Virtual Garden main page |
